Geoff Merrill Jacko's McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013
VINTAGE INFORMATION
The 2013 vintage was a welcome return to a fairly ‘normal’ vintage. We had good winter and spring rains and only a small reduction in yield across a few varieties. The ripening period had a small heat ‘hiccup’ but the vines made it through unscathed and ripening continued extremely well enabling us to pick at full flavour ripeness.
WINEMAKERS NOTES
The colour is a deep red with youthful purple hues. A wonderful array of dried herbs initially characterises the aroma. Oregano, dill and thyme come forward, then make way for black pepper, olive and black cherry. Savoury and earthy tones also make their way from the aroma onto the full, fleshy palate. Fine ripe tannin, tight acidity and meaty flavours combine into an umami delight, with ripe red fruits adding colour and brightness to the palate. “Drink now to 2028 with dry aged steak, steak tartare, pasta with shaved truffle and finished with Blue Castello.”
