Ulithorne "Frux Frugis" Old Vines McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

Ulithorne "Frux Frugis" Old Vines McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

Frux Frugis Shiraz

This wine exhibits a dark ruby colour, portraying concentration and intensity. The nose shows lifted aromas of ripe fruits such as plum, black cherry, and a fine spice blend of cinnamon and liquorice. The full palate of rich black cherry, juicy plum, and black pepper spice has fine silky tannins and exceptional length – leaving a dark chocolate aftertaste for that lasting impression. Decant for at least 1 hour.

Old vines, Blewitt Springs, sand over clay. Small batch ferment, hand harvested, 15 days skin contact. Pressed to new and older French oak hogsheads, 12 months maturation, the finest barrels are selected prior to blending and an additional 12 months oak maturation.

Region: McLaren Vale, South Australia
Varietal: Shiraz
Vintage: 2018
Analysis: Alcohol 14.5%

REVIEWER'S WORDS

"Immensely rich and engaging, the wine shows dark fruit intensity with vanillin oak, dark spice, game and cocoa aromas on the nose. The powerfully expressed palate delivers outstanding weight and depth, brilliantly enhanced by lavish texture and seamlessly woven tannins."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Here is great example of an ultra-ripe Australian Shiraz with some years under its below. Deeply coloured, almost opaque in colour, it shows bold, robust aromas of chocolate, mulberry and blackberry jam that are ultra seductive with lavish, sweet oak in support. It’s then soft and voluptuous on the palate, again jammy and rich but also showing the first signs of fading with tannins now soft and pliable. It’s a crowd pleaser and best enjoyed over the next couple of years although it will live longer."
