Koonara The Marquise Mt Gambier Chardonnay 2012
The Marquise Chardonnay 2012
100% Mount Gambier. Single vineyard.
The Marquise (Mahr-keez) is a French noblewoman ranking above a countess, and – like this wine – shows elegance, refinement, and sophistication.
Tasting notes The grapes for this cool-climate Chardonnay are grown in Mount Gambier, the coolest mean maximum temperature average of any wine region in mainland Australia.
James Halliday: 94 points “Some pretty nifty winemaking decisions have been taken including the time to pick a wild ferment, half in new French Oak (other half in tank), both components undergoing mlf, this is an elegant wine with grapefruit to the fore, but leaving space for a white peach contribution.
Huon Hooke: “Bright, light yellow colour. Intense tropical fruit, herbal and buttery aromas, a little shrill, and the palate is fruity and tropical with a hint of sweetness and a touch of acid harshness. Oak is subtly handled. Tight and fresh with good persistence.”
