Atlas Wines The Spaniard Tempranillo Mourvedre Grenache 2014

Atlas Wines The Spaniard Tempranillo Mourvedre Grenache 2014

Made by a Boutique Winery, hand picked and in small batches this wine shows an opaque dark red black colour with a dark red hue. The nose displays black cherry, subtle liquorice, new leather, earth and spice aromas. Medium weight the palate possesses good richness and a savoury character with flavours of black cherries, liquorice, spicy new leather and earth. Finishes fresh and dry with solid, slightly chewy tannins. Aftertaste of black cherries, liquorice, new leather and spicy earth.

James Hallidays Review:

One of the best (arguably the best) red blends from the Clare Valley, albeit built fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the tempranillo.

A sunburst of red fruits lights the way for a wine with firm structure deriving as much from the fruits as the tannins, no hint of confection.

55% tempranillo, 30% mourvedre and 15% grenache, part hand-picked, open-fermented with wild yeast and 5% whole bunches, the tempranillo for 15 days, mourvedre 14 days, grenache 21 days, matured for 15 months in used French oak.
