Zerella Wines Market Truck McLaren Vale Shiraz Mataro 2014

Bronze Medal - McLaren Vale Wine Show

91 Points – Halliday Wine Companion

Brightly coloured, displaying aromas of red cherry spice, ripe plums and savoury undertones. A fleshy and rounded palate with supple tannins and grainy texture. The beauty of Shiraz (69%) Mataro (31%) blends are that the varieties complement each other very well, the Shiraz brings flesh and fresh fruits, while the Mataro provides structure, tannin and complex spices.

Vineyard Information:

A blend of 3 vineyards grown within the shadow of the Sellicks foothills of McLaren Vale. The Mataro vineyard is grown on an elevated north westerly slope facing the coastline, benefiting from the refreshing late afternoon sea-breeze. The Shiraz vineyards are located towards the McLaren Vale township in the Tatachilla sub-region. Deep alluvial red soils over clay and limestone characterize these vineyard soils, ideal for growing high quality Shiraz.

Winemaking Notes:

Hand harvested and destemmed only, with 10% whole bunch clusters returned, the fruit was cold soaked at 8ºC for five days before being allowed to warm naturally for fermentation. A long slow fermentation occurred with 18 days on skins before being pressed off to oak barrels, 5% new French hogsheads. The wine was then matured for 17 months on malo lees before being racked to blend and bottled. Bottled without finings and or filtration. This has created a wine with approachability and richness.
