Penfolds Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling 2012 (RRP $33.00)

PEAK DRINKING 2012 – 2019.

The evolution of Penfolds Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling opens a new chapter in a long history of Penfolds involvement in winemaking from this variety.

NOSE: Giveaway Eden Valley florals, notably apple blossom and jasmine with perfumed bath salts, lime juice and lemon pith rounding out the aromatics with just a faint hint of spice to finish.

PALATE: Forefront, flavours of citrus, principally lemon juice/pith direct a path to mouthwatering, slatey acid and a fine phenolic finish adding structure, texture and length.

Little Brampton Flagpole Clare Valley Riesling 2016 (RRP $23.00)

Our Riesling is made from hand-picked fruit, whisked to the winery and crushed immediately to maximise fruit flavours. This Riesling shows beautiful, crisp fruit lift on the nose. Powerful zesty citrus and lime flavours explode on the palate and carry through to a refreshing finish. An approachable style, this Riesling is drinking beautifully now. Cellaring for up to 10 years will see the wine develop with mature Riesling flavours.

Jeanneret Big Fine Girl Clare Valley Riesling 2015 (RRP $22.00)

A lovely pale yellow/green: in the glass it even looks crisp and delicious. It smells like an apple that gave apples a good name (before so many were bred down for conformity, blandness and yield)…really sweet, ripe and alluring, yet always dignified, with notes of lemon blossom, lime and cassis. When you taste a wine like this it’s easy to see why Watervale has got such a lofty reputation. And on the palate it’s got lovely depth and intensity; 2015 is a relatively generous wine for our Watervale Riesling. There’s lots of really ripe apple, lemon and lime fruit and perhaps even a whisper of something more tropical. In this vintage this wine a definitely walking in the footsteps of the Big Fine Girl, at a respectable distance though, of course: the 2015 Watervale is a bridge between the opulence of the Big Fine Girl and the delicacy and elegance of the Sevenhill Riesling. Delicious now (of course) but should cellar beautifully for ten years. 13.5% alc/vol

Rileys of Eden Valley Riesling 2016 (RRP $24.00)

The wine exhibits the usual Eden Valley characteristics of citrus blossom, passion fruit and other tropical fruits. The palate has lemon zest, lime notes and even some granny smith apple crispness. The steely acid provides backbone, length and a crisp finish to this beautifully balanced wine. The wine has a sugar to acid ratio near 1 and a pH of 2.8 allowing it to exhibit its very fruity character while remaining a dry wine. The wine is ideal with Asian dishes and sea foods.
