Erin Eyes Blarney Stone Shiraz 2017 + Dr John's Willunga Shiraz 2014

Erin Eyes Blarney Stone Shiraz 2017 + Dr John's Willunga Shiraz 2014

ERIN EYES BLARNEY STONE CLARE VALLEY SHIRAZ 2017

Background
Winter in Clare was unusually cold and wet, and above average rain continued through most of the growing season. The late summer and autumn turned dry, a welcome change prior to the harvest. Steve Wiblin picked the grapes for this wine from his own 20 year-old vineyard on 14th March.
The grapes for this flavoursome Shiraz came from a vineyard in Sevenhill, towards the northern end of the valley.
The wine matured in for 21 months in French oak barrels, 35% of them new. This wine has a deep colour and combines with rich flavours.

Colour
Deep red colour with a purple edge.

Nose
Intense raspberries and other red fruits, with an overlay of sweet oak.

Structure / Palate
Medium bodied. Starts a bit reticent, then builds through the mouth with very good depth of red fruit. A beautifully supple mid palate, finishing with fine, firm tannin and good length.

The 2017 growing season has produced a more elegantly structured Shiraz than, say, the 2015 Blarney Stone, but the 2017’s quality shows in its deep colour and intense flavour. It will develop further in bottle until at least 2024, gaining cedary complexity. It’s an excellent accompaniment to all red meats and most flavoursome dishes.
